Corporate Coverage
The solo corporation of a physician is likely to be named in a claim of negligence along with the physician. Therefore, precautions should be taken to make sure appropriate insurance coverage is secured for the medical practice. In most instances, a physician’s solo corporation will be covered on a shared limit basis with the physician. For instance, Thompson Family Practice (a solo corporation owned by Dr. Thompson) would be covered by the same $1M/$3M limits afforded to Dr. Thompson by his professional liability insurance policy. If the medical practice is a Partnership or an LLC as opposed to a solo corporation, then separate corporate coverage is needed.
